Q: Is Dock and Bay Towel a Hammam Towel?

A: Simple and short answer is No. They are microfiber towels. Hammam Towels are made of natural long fiber cottons and produced in small batches using traditional weaving methods whereas microfiber towels are mass-manufactured, made of synthetic materials such as recycled plastic water bottle etc.

Let`s compare! Microfibre Towels vs Hammam Towels:

Dock and Bay Cabana Towels
H for Hammam Cyan Towel

1-Materials

Dock & Bay microfiber towels are made of following mixture; 83% Polyester and 17% Polyamide. (Nylon) On the other hand, H for Hammam towels for instance, are made of 100% Organic cotton with natural vegetable dyes used in the thread colouring process.

2- Dimensions

Dock&Bay`s “Large” towels dimensions are 90cm x 160cm (weighs 380gr). In comparison with a typical hammam towel, they are 10cm shorter on the width and 20cm shorter on the height. To get something similar to Hammam Towels, you may need to go with their Extra Large option (which is currently retails at £29 price point. And Dock&Bay Extra Large microfiber towel dimensions are 90cm x 200cm (weighs 475gr). Still being 10cm short on the width, this time they are 10-20cm longer on the length.

3-Weight

Overall Dock & Bay towels are known to be with their light-weight, and quick drying aspects.

Towel Brand & ModelDimensionsWeightPrice
Dock & Bay Medium70 cm x 130cmN/A£21
Dock & Bay Large90 cm x 160cm380gr£25
Dock & Bay Extra Large90cm x 200cm475gr£29

4-Comfort and Sturdiness

According to a consumer goods review platform Don`t Waste Your Money.com, Dock&Bay scored 8.9 and came 15th amongst the 18 contestant competition. (The category was testing 18 light-weight compact towels). In the list I noticed a Hammam Towel brand called WetCat, attended with a typical ultra-light weight hammam towel (around 280-300gr range) and got a total score of 9.2 out of 10.

What experts like the most: “It’s handy. It’s convenient. It comes in a huge assortment of colors. And most of all, it works.”

What Experts didn`t like: “Very thin. Blows away easily, so be prepared to pile your beach gear on top of it if you unpack it before using it for drying. Should not be placed in dryer.”

There you have it!

To sum up; common grounds of both towels are their light-weight and compactness and colour variety. And the main difference is the material, ultimately it is a choice of synthetic fibers vs natural fibers. Whichever way your prefer, happy and informed shopping!
